Silky, golden sand.

Light green waters.

A tranquil seashore.

Not-so-hot, not-so-cold weather.

Pleasant sunrises and picturesque sunsets.

Small, secluded roads.

Back-to-back books!

Haven’t been able to post since a long time now. There were quite a few things to write about but was caught up with work! Some of those ‘things’ may be a little outdated by now but I will try to see if they can be made into a ‘post’!

As of now, will write about a couple of books I read sometime back!

I read two novels back-to-back; ‘The Broker’ by John Grisham and ‘Legal Tender’ by Lisa Scottoline!

The Broker is about a power broker in US who is servicing a sentence in Jail for a defense deal gone wrong. An outgoing president gives him pardon and he is released. The CIA takes him out of the country, gives him a new identification and plans to sit back and watch who kills him so that they get some clues about the ‘fallen-through’ defense deal. The book is about how the ‘broker’ copes with his new identity, suspects the CIA and fights for his life. Sounds interesting, eh?

As is usual with Grisham novels, this one is also about the ‘human’ aspects of everyone involved. Generally, every Grisham novel touches some aspect of law and makes is comprehensible for a layman. In this case, there is no legal aspect. Besides, one feels that the author has tried to focus on the ‘human’ aspects more than the plot. There are sections in the book where you continue reading only because it is a Grisham novel. It is a good read but not great!

The other one ‘Legal Tender’ is about a woman who runs a legal firm with his ex-lover. Suddenly, the ex-lover is killed and she is the prime suspect. While she is trying to prove her innocence, there is another murder and she is suspected again. The book is about how she learns of the truth (almost single-handedly) and proves her innocence.

I haven’t heard of the Author before (Lisa Scottoline) but I picked up because it looked interesting. (‘Never judge a book by its back cover’ is something I know, but still…). Honestly speaking, the book didn’t impress much. There are quite a few issues but to sum it, everything comes down to amateurish writing. There were a few sparks here and there but that was all. Utterly forgettable and inconsistent!
